Once upon a time there was a third-grade class at Olive Grove School. The teacher’s name was Ms. Bashir. She announced that their class was going for a class field trip to an outdoor library tomorrow.
“Bring your lunch bag in a brown bag,” said Ms. Bashir.
Alex was so excited. After school, his Dad picked him up and Alex told him about the field trip. “We have to bring brown bag lunches and a water bottle. We also have to bring a jacket and gloves, hat and a scarf because it’s an outdoor library,” said Alex.
His Mom came home and they had pasta for dinner and Alex got ready for bed.
The next morning he woke up and got ready for school. Alex wore his jacket and other things. He picked up his brown lunch bag and water bottle, and went to the bus and said goodbye.
The bus reached the school. He lined up to go inside the classroom. Everyone took off their jackets and sat down on the carpet, and Ms. Bashir took attendance.
“Pack your journals, pencils, erasers and pencil crayons in your bags. Also find a book and have a seat on the carpet,” said Ms. Bashir.
Alex packed everything and got a book and sat on the carpet to read. After ten minutes, finally the bus arrived. He got ready and grabbed his bag.
Ms. Bashir, Alex and his class lined up at the bus. She selected partners for the class. Alex was partners with his best friend Marco. They sat down on the bus together and wrote in their journals about their day.
The bus parked at a grassy field. There was bookshelves of books and a librarian with a stamp pad and a stamp. They came out of the bus in a line and Ms. Bashir walked to the librarian and told her about what the owner said about them coming.
The librarian called them to come in. Alex and Marco walked together to a bookshelf. Alex saw a book called Moby Dick on the top shelf that he tried to reach. Ms. Bashir saw him and tried to help, but she could not reach it either.
She called out for the librarian and the librarian replied back, “I only sign out books!”
Ms. Bashir asked if she had a tool room. The librarian said, “Yes,” and showed Ms. Bashir the way. Ms. Bashir spotted a ladder and took it to the shelf. She put the ladder leaning down to the shelf. Ms. Bashir climbed the ladder and grabbed the book.
Marco, Alex and the whole class cheered!
Alex was so happy to get the book. He signed it out and read it on the bus ride home.
