There once lived a girl named Cecile. Cecile had one secret that only she and her parents knew. She had the power to fly! Her parents were scientists and they spent weeks of sleepless nights to create special power-sourced vitamins for their daughter. Cecile needed to take them once a day. If she didn’t, her flying power would go haywire and she wouldn't be able to control it. Cecile took a great responsibility to remember to take the vitamins every day. Cecile also went to school like a normal kid.
One day, Cecile went to her parents' lab where they had all their inventions and gizmos. Cecile needed to take her power-sourced vitamins. As she took the jar of vitamins, she tripped and her jar went flying! It got zapped into one of her dad’s machines that vaporizes things.
Cecile became nervous. She needed her vitamins. Her parents couldn’t just make a new jar full of them. It would take them close to two days to prepare. Cecile couldn’t miss two days of school! She had a math test to pass.
Suddenly, Cecile’s mom walked into the lab. “Cecile, did you take your vitamins? You’re going to miss the bus!”
“Oh –um … yeah! I already took them,” Cecile lied. She grabbed her backpack and hopped on the bus in front of her house to school.
When Cecile came to school, her flying power didn’t seem to glitch…yet. Cecile thought, “I’m worrying too much. It’s only one day. I don’t think I will glitch.”
The rest of the morning Cecile didn’t worry too much about her vitamins. When it was time for Cecile’s class to take the math test, Cecile started to feel something. She was rising out of her seat! She grabbed her desk so she would stay put. No one noticed her flying because they were busy with their tests. Cecile looked at the teacher. Ms. Stevens was busy marking things in her book. Cecile sighed in relief. After a while the glitching stopped. Cecile started to worry. She knew this was just the beginning of the glitching. Soon, it would go crazy!
Cecile glitched a lot later too. At snack time, during language class and art class. Cecile tried to control it, but she couldn’t. Still, no one noticed her glitching.
At lunch time, it started again. She flew all the way to the ceiling! She flew to the right, then to the left, then up and down, and then she went up again really fast and bonked her head on the ceiling! Cecile tried to stop herself, but it was too late. Everyone in the cafeteria was staring at her in shock! The lunch lady fainted. Ms. Stevens couldn’t speak.
“Cecile’s a GHOST!!” one girl screamed. All the kids in the cafeteria were screaming and running away from Cecile. Cecile needed to go home. School wasn’t even over.
Cecile somehow reached home. Both of Cecile’s parents were upset. “Your teacher phoned us. She is going to call the ghostbusters!” Cecile’s dad explained.
“Cecile! Why didn’t you take your vitamins? Now your whole school knows about your flying powers!” Cecile’s mom scolded.
Cecile’s parents were in panic. They didn’t want Ms. Stevens to call the ghostbusters. They needed to do something. Cecile thought and thought. Usually, when Cecile flew around she would get good ideas. So Cecile flew around her house. Then Cecile came up with a great idea.
Cecile’s parents could make cupcakes that could make a person forget everything that happened in a day. They spent the whole night baking them. Cecile put on a disguise and went to school early the next day. She put one cupcake on everyone’s desk in the whole school without anyone noticing her. Cecile knew if anyone saw her they would get scared and run away.
Finally, Cecile saw Ms. Stevens coming into the class. Cecile quickly put the last cupcake on Ms. Stevens' desk and ran out without being noticed. “OOOHH CUPCAKES! My favourite dessert!” Ms. Steven’s grabbed the cupcake and shoved it in her mouth. She forgot all about Cecile and marking the math test.
Everything was normal at school and nobody talked about yesterday’s event. When Cecile came back home her mom asked her, “How did you come up with that idea when you flew around? Didn’t you glitch?”
“How DID I fly without glitching?” Cecile asked herself. After Cecile’s parents tested her a little, they figured out Cecile could control her powers without needing to take the vitamins! She just needed to go one day without her power-source vitamins. Cecile was finally old enough to control her flying powers!
